Any thoughts on profiling this monster?
RGB profiling with the driver should be excellent assuming the driver's linearization and ink limiting is good for your papers.
With full RGB inks, do the standard patterns have enough samples in that area to produce a profile that covers the extended gamut?
Yes, PMP and Profilers (along with just about everyone else's) standard testcharts include full additive and subtractive patches (Red=255,0,0, Cyan=0,255,255, etc) which test the limits of the devices gamut. No need to do anything unusual.

Yeah, the improvement isn't as much as you might expect from Canon's promotional materials. We saw similar results with Epson's Ultrachrome High-Gloss inks that included Red and Blue inks. I've been saying for years that Epson should include RGB inks with the others and be done with it. Bravo to Canon for beating them to it.
