"- can you really see those .x differences in color on your monitor ? - can you print those differences on your printer and actually see the differences in the printout ? If the answer to both questions is yes, then I would like to know more about your equipment." Yes to both, to different degrees throughout the scale, and depending on the profile. We're on Apple Cinema displays calibrated and profiled with MonacoOptix and the DTP94. The differences show on the monitor more than the proofs, of course. "> 6) The results this time will be {class:CMYK color, cyan:14.12, > magenta:89.02, yellow:63.92, black:21.96}. The colors have shifted, > albeit > slightly, but nonetheless they are not exactly what they are > supposed to be. In some way Adobe has to translate 0..100 into 8 bit notation 0..255. This is what you see here, I guess." Yup. Remember, ink doesn't exist in the digital world. Everything under the hood is made from 1's and 0's. All 8-bit values, regardless of color mode, will be from 0-255. The histogram shows this, were it only refers to levels and not %'s. Photoshop's ink %'s, whether they're rounded or not, are just present for the sake of the UI and user. If one really wanted to be meticulous, they could go through a gradient and get every actual % throughout the scale. 0.0, 0.39, 0.78, 1.18, 1.57, etc.... You'll notice that only 100, 80, 60, 40, 20, and 0% come out whole. Carl.
