I was using an Epson 9600 (Ultrachrome) at 720 x 720 dpi with EFI Gravure
Proof 4245 paper and getting great results. I now have switched to an Epson
7800 (Ultrachrome K3) at 720 x 720 with the same paper. I was/am driving
both printers with MetaDimension Colorproof Pro, which is an OEM of EFI
Colorproof. The dot/droplet is much more visible on the 7800 than on the
9800. In addition, the cyan appears to be very mottly, for lack of a better
term. This mottling is evident if I print gradients of pure primaries and
secondaries to the printer using the baselin but no color management on. I
have tried 1440 x 720 and did not get much better results. I have tried
unidirectional vs. bidirectional and did not see any significant
differences. I do not really want to try 1440 x 1440 because it would too
slow.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any speculation or suggestions?
Thanks,
Abe Hayhurst
