How would you gauge the quality of a device link profile from lcms vs.
something like ProfileMaker or other commercial tool?
Since there's not a lot that you can do differently in linking two
profiles A2B and B2A transformations, the results are likely to be
very similar, if not identical for most tools. The only
slight variation may in whether the per-channel curves are
retained in the final device link, or whether the whole
transformation ends up in the CLUT.
When it comes to extra "fancy" features such as imposing a TAC,
there will be more variation. Without regenerating the B2A table
for instance (or using a similar process), it's not possible
to change the TAC accurately, and the gamut mapping won't be
adjusted to account for the change in gamut, so it's likely that
this operation is something of a heuristic.
