ColorLab

I'm trying to use ColorLab to help evaluate some printer profiles. I
downloaded the latest version (v2.8.12) and am following the steps in Real
World Color Management on page 248 (Objective Tests for Output Profiles).
Unfortunately, the book was written using a different version of ColorLab,
so the menus and behavior don't exactly match up.

When I select Filter->Layout and Format->Spot Colors... I get the dialog and
select "Enable". At this point I can go to File->Export... and export an
image which can be opened in Photoshop. However, if I do the next step in
the book, Filter->Layout and Format->Image..., the File->Export... menu
option is grayed out.

What is the purpose of the Image... step? Is is necessary or am I getting
the same result by exporting to a TIFF after the Spot Color... step? Perhaps
this was a change between versions of ColorLab?

Thanks.
