<Can I ask if the RGB ~ 190 was on a raw scan (no pre- or
<post-processing)? I am assuming it is, but I just want to ask to be
<thorough.
Yes RGB 190 is the result of the Epson
control signals. The scanner is set
to gamma 2.2 with no adjustments of any kind. When I first noticed this problem it
created a debate among the staff here. Some of us thought we should be imposing
a higher level by setting the white point lower before scanning the It8. For example if we set the white point to
produce RGB 220 , we would be at least be spreading the data to correspond to an
2.2 RGB workspace like Adobe 1998( L*88= RGB220). The problem of course is that
the adjustment would have to be applied to every scan in order for the profile to work. Also, we are running on a small budget, and
cant afford to buy an IT8 for every film stock, imposing a white point for one
film stock wouldnt necessarily work for another., and we could end up running
out of room if a film stock has less base plus fog than the target we used.
<What is interesting is that on an
identical set-up (same scanner model, <same computer and OS version, same
scanning software with the same <settings, same target) I am getting RGB
~ 235 for the white.
If I were you, I would be replacing item by item
between systems until I isolated the factor.
