And what do we know from physchophics about dark surround: it decreases the
apparent contrast. So, I'd rather go for a plain old Munsell N8. Granted, it
has to be illuminated less than the monitor and it will become darker than
N8. But I feel it's a better choice.

Incidently, is there a consensus as to the "quality" of the light that
should fall on the background (surround); higher or lower CCT than the
monitor? Suppose mi Eizo is set to D50. Then what: use a bluer quality of
light for surround or a warmer one?
