We dare. ;-)
I've done extensive comparisons of 720 vs 1440 dpi with Epson
Ultrachrome printers and there is no perceivable difference. An
exception might be if you had a large solid color area that could show
slight banding at 720 vs 1440 (8 pass). During busy production periods,
the additional time 1440 dpi would take would cripple us, again with no
visual benefit. And if anyone can tell the difference in background
simulation between 720 and 1440 dpi on an Epson UC/K3 printer, I'll eat
my hat(Epson printers only with a non-spanked printhead, HP could be
another story entirely, particularly the 5000 model...your results may
vary, very vary much...and my hat is edible).
