I did some experimenting with PMP and Monaco Profiler profiles, some
time ago. One thing I learnt was to use the mini-color checker because
that can be lighted uniformly more easily ... I never managed to use
ColorEyes at all because of the stringent lighting instructions. Some
days I wonder whether the secret to Coloreyes isn't simply the
lighting instructions.

Chris,
Sorry for being so late to this party. I have been away from the list
getting a hockey season underway with lots of print projects.
I am a BIG believer in custom camera profiles as they are implemented in
Capture One. The profiles I create with ColorEyes 20/20 are FAR superior to
the canned profiles supplied by Phase One. These profiles save me an
immeasurable amount of time when processing RAW files via Capture One.
Also, I simply don't buy into the concept that camera profiles are only
useful if shooting under controlled circumstances. As long as you can get a
good gray balance for the shots you are trying to process, a single profile
will work, regardless of the lighting. I shoot under a wide variety of
lighting conditions and get great results with a one-profile-per-camera
system. This may not be true of profiles made with other software, I can't
say.
Many have stated that this doesn't work. I wonder how many who are so
inclined have made and used profiles with 20/20?
