This portable uses one physical port for both serial lines. The
problem may be that some software is running that has already locked
the port for its usage, perhaps a bit of modem software? Sometimes
using the Extensions Manager to disable Fax and Modem software may be
the key. Remember that you have to reboot after disabling the
extensions to have the changes take effect.

I'm running Colorshop 2.6.2 under MacOS 8.6. Works great. But when

have the
instrument connected at the back of the machine through what Apple
calls the
9-pin DIN socket serial port.
This combination works great on a 7600/120 but not on this
PowerBook :(
Could it be the serial port hardware on this PB3400C is busted?
