Dan,
The fact that SWOP is moving to a "measured" certification program as
opposed to a "visually assessed" certification program is going to be
interesting to follow. Hope they thought of including all kinds of caveats
and warning for the user of this new class of "SWOP-certified proofs"
because, as we all know of today, strict measurements in themselves may not
directly translate into garanteed press matches, everytime. For a number of
reasons. Things like the use of UV-cut filter or not, differing instrument's
calibrations (NIST vs PTB traceability) and the use of FWA in proofing
substrate all come to mind.
But I'm sure these issues have already been well thought of by SWOP and
clear guidelines will be available for anyone interested in going with the
new style of certification.
