Hi Mark
My sketchy memory of having one of these connected to a Xerox Docucolor 2060
is that the settings were:
Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: none
Stop bits: 1
Handshake / Flow Control: None
The first four settings are pretty standard with serial devices. The
handshake though can vary depending on the serial device. Ie most dialup
modems use hardware control.
The worse you are going to do in any case is to get no data because all
these setting simply control the chatter between the device and your
computer / printer. You cannot blow anything up by changing these settings.
UPDATE: This document on the X-Rite website:
http://www.xrite.com/support_doc.aspx?SupportID=1388&Type=d
shows how to test an X-Rite instrument using terminal software - in this
case, Hyperterm for the PC. There's no need to do this in your case - it's
just the document tells us what the settings for most all X-Rite instruments
should be - answering your question...
It states: "ALL X-Rite instruments require 8 data bits, No parity, 1 stop
bit, and No flow control".
So this confirms what I thought... at least my memory still works... ;)
It also says that most units run at 9600 but a few - especially after a
factory reset will default back to 1200.
So... connect your unit as per these suggestions starting at 9600. If you
get no connection or garbled output, then lower your connection speed to the
next setting down and try again. Just like the good old days with
configuring a modem to connect to a BBS Bulletin Board... ;)

Subject: Xrite DTP32 and Onyx RIP
I recently located a DTP32. I 'd like to use it with my Onyx RIP, but
neither Onyx nor Xrite know what the settings should be - such as 8 bit,
parity/ noparity, handshakes, etc. All those things we used to have to set
for serial ports in the old days.
Does anyone know what the settings should be?
Thanks,
Mark Rice
