Not in your area, but "Graph Expo 2007" will be in Chicago 9/9-9/20, which
usually has many seminars available throughout the course of the show.
XRite announced a "SPE Color Technology Forum" from 10/1-10/2 in San
Antonio, TX. But I have no further info on this.
There is another series in many cities called "Picture Perfect Color". This
is primarily geared towards photography, but I found it very informative and
useful. You can find out more here:

And I echo the suggestion of others to read Bruce Fraser's book "Real World
Color Management". Another book is "Practical Color Management" by Eddie
Tapp, but again, this later book is primarily geared towards digital
photography. But Bruce's book is second to none.
