I've heard you can do this, but I don't know anyone who's ever had it done (nor do I know the cost). But as I said, I suspected it was just more cost effective to replace the unit.

I have several clients that have done this with great success on both Apple Cinema Displays and Apple Laptops. It made sense to do so when Cinema's sold for $4000 but only seems to make sense today on the laptops where Apple's repair cost is more than twice that of the lightsource switching repair shops (of which there are many).
