Hi Kevin
For RIPs that don't have the EFI functionality I measure the CMYK ramps in
ColorPicker and save as an CXF file. I then load the profile I want to match
to - usually ISO v2 - into the gamut view of Profile Editor and then load
the CXF file into the 2D Spot Colour Checker and you end up with something
that looks almost identical to the EFI graph and you can pick the limits
yourself. It seems to work OK but I suppose there are plenty of other
utilities you could use to do the same thing.
One thing I've never found a completely satisfactory answer to though is if
the ramp of a colour begins to hook and pushes the colour closer to the
target cyan, for example, is it better to limit before the hook or somewhere
along it before it gets too pronounced as long as the chroma is still
increasing in the hope of getting a gamut that isn't so offset from the
target?
