Greetings and a prosperous New Year to all.
As a recent convert to GutenPrint drivers for my Epson 1270 when I
upgraded my OS to X.6, I am confounded by all the printer-specific
settings available for this printer. Has anyone documented any settings
for the GIMP driver that will print accurate color (Pantone specific
spot, CMYK) using Epson papers (photo-quality inkjet paper) and ink? Can
anyone point me in the direction of other links (I have tried Google
without much concrete success). Using the standard Epson driver under
OSX works fine for PDF workflow, but in the end I would like to print
directly from InDesign CS2 and Quark 6.5 which require a Postscript
driver such as GIMP/GutenPrint. While I could continue to print Acrobat
using the Epson drivers it adds an [unnecessary/extra/time-consuming]
step to the process. Hoping that someone has already invented this
wheel, or has found a good manual/guide to assist.
I'm getting little color specks in otherwise supposed-to-be solid areas
and weights of type vary with color settings. I'm printing at 720 DPI on
a consistent basis to ensure that it's not the resolution that causes
this. 1440 on PQIJ paper puts down too much ink.
I am on OSX.4.6, using the GutenPrint/GIMP Epson driver release "Epson
Stylus Photo 1270-CUPS + GutenPrint 5.0.0"
q: has there been an update to this driver, if so, where do I get it and
how to install it?
I will continue to experiment with my settings in the meantime to see
what I come up with.
Thank you
Jurgen
