Title: Re: Eizo monitors and Off-Set Soft-Proofing
Has anyone had the opportunity to test this new Samsung LED backlit monitor yet? Evidently it will be available early next month at somewhere between $1700.00 - $2000.00 US for the 20" wide screen model.

Potentially a
bit better in some cases, worse in others. Is the ability to view the more saturated colors that fall outside sRGB but in SWOP CMYK useful to view (theres not that much)? Is squashing finer gradations of color and tone that fall within sRGB by virtue of using a wider gamut display useful not to view? Weve got a round hole we need to fit into a square peg. With Adobe RGB (1998) gamut display, youre using a much larger square peg in the case of SWOP, far less so in the case of working with Epson K3 inks. Theres always an upside and a downside.
We need wide gamut displays that actually alter the RGB chromaticity rather than start in something close to Adobe RGB (1998) and filter that to sRGB in situations where you want a narrower gamut display behavior. We need both sRGB and wider gamut in one unit.
Frankly, anyone whos dropping big bucks for a CCFL, wide gamut display for press work has deep monetary pockets more than anything else!
