Calibrating and Epson Desktop

I have a friend who recently got a new inkjet printer. It's an epson
desktop model of the latest variety, can't recall the name or model.

Point is, this new printer is all about switching from his Mac OS 9
sytem to his new monster g5 something or other.

You should consider the open source GutenPrint (formerly GIMP) Printer Driver http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
There have been several posts about it recently. When printing with it in a profiled environment, set Color to "Uncorrected" . You have many options to adjust colour; density, gamma, etc, etc. and will get better results than the Epson drivers. Can print from RGB or CMYK, so can separate in Photoshop using Profiles (none supplied).  Not sure how it works in conjunction with a rip though.
