In other words, that was a reaction to something I didn't say.

My point was not about "improving upon the work experienced prepress operators," but about the ability of photographers to become their own separators and do a more-than-decent job of it.

It goes without saying, and without challenge, that an "experienced prepress operator" will run circles around a relative neophite. But, again, that was not the point.

Why is an educated photographer who does his separations being called "untrained and unskilled"?

Yes, the same color management which is being actively ignored or even sabotaged by more prepress operators than I care to count.
