I really think that 99% or users won't need a RIP to get the right starting point to profile with these printers.

Sometimes though, we and clients like to print on papers that are not on the OEM path. To do such, IMO, is an exercise in futility if one cannot control the channel reduction and ink limits.
The HPs allow you to linearize/calibrate to any media, though some assumptions do apply...
