I used to use it. It was real fast. Great for skin tones. Non-
destructive editing.
The people marketing LP in the '90s characterized it as a compliment
to PS. RAM was very dear in those days, and it was a great solution
for working with large files. It was non-destructive, as you say, and
perfect for compositing and retouching. I'm not a power user of LP,
but the people on Julian Calverley's LP Group list love it for the
smooth transitions of the brushes, among other things. It's usually in
their workflow, along with PS.
I'm not sure of its history, but someone bought the rights to it and
sat on it, I believe. One of the original programmers is on the LP
list.
