The question is, does writing XMP data in everyone's proprietary files,
whether designed for this or not is a good idea? One reason Adobe went the
DNG route is they didn't want to embed data into other's proprietary files.
I suspect part of this was for cautionary legal reasons and part due avoid
possibly breaking the format.
Of course the bit about Microsoft is encouraging camera manufacturers to
develop safe ways of writing XMP metadata directly into their file formats
is key here. Will they find success in this encouragement? Will it be safe?
