Hi Roger,
Yes you are right, but a PR650 and sphere won't get you very far. I feel your
pain and I REALLY want such a device also. To that end, on a friendly basis,
I am helping Dietmar Wueller of Image Engineering in Cologne to develop a poor
man's monochromator and linearity measurement device that, with a new version
of IE software, will enable his customers to make their own camera-specifc
profiles the right way. IE is the leading camera testing company in Europe and
his customers are manufacturers and periodicals. So I don't know how "poor"
"poor man's" will be but certainly much cheaper than conventional monochromators
and with a more integrated solution for this purpose. I expect to be one of
his first customers for this product. I have no affiliation with IE except that
I am a happy customer and friend. Its too early to say if the approach will
work satisfactorily or when it will be available (hopefully by the end of this
year). But if you are interested in it, please contact him directly and
register your interest.
Thanks,
Eric Walowit

<< Hi Eric,
We've discussed the technical merits of your approach many times in the
past...
I'm convinced this gives the user the utmost rendering control over the
image.
By any chance, could there be some kind of "poor man" approach to what
you're doing?
