Hi
After writing a review to cover the huey pro the other day, curiosity led me
to the drawer full of calibrators (from all the various reviews I've
written) Not wishing to do comparative reviews and all the cans of worms
they open up, I'm left with deciding which is the 'best' monitor profile
from all the various kit and software I've got sitting round - for my own
general photographic use (Apple 23" display a couple of years old on a dual
G5)
Visibility of very dark greys against black, linearity and neutrality of a
grey wedge in PS (with and without monitor profile selected in proofing) are
some ideas - What other visual checks could you suggest for someone wanting
to compare the current crop of calibrators on their own monitor.
If I'm not really sure what is 'best' (or even how many varieties of 'best'
for my photographic use there are) then I'm sure a lot of other people must
be in a similar situation?
Hmm 'Best'? - am I right in thinking there might be as many answers as
'colour management experts' you can fit in the room to ask? :-)
When does 'good enough' become good enough to not bother with more fiddling
around and get on with paying work ;-)
I'd be curious in hearing some people's 'best' - but I'm talking best for a
particular display, before someone suggest spending several thousand on a
new one ;-)
bye for now
Keith Cooper
PS The question originally arose when my girlfriend saw me calibrating my
monitor and wanted to know why I was using a particular bit of kit - I
didn't have an answer that stood up to further questioning :-)
