If one has a laundry list of edits to correct a profile, most
likely it is best to start over again with better calibration,
profile chart patch count, and black generation parameters.
Right! One must make sure that all options for correcting an
imperfect calibration, measurement or lighting situation have been
exhausted before editing the profile. I try to avoid profile editing
at all costs.
I've spent too much time trying to fix a problem with greenish
shadows and bleeding blacks on Nortisu's new 3400 printer on Royal.
The linearization looks fine and prints made without a profile look
like one would expect but this particular paper does not profile well
at all only on this particular printer. As it turns out Nortisu's
paper setting for this paper (they annoyingly call it a "profile")
puts down too much light. Substituting another paper setting fixes
it. Profile editing in this situation was initially tempting but
getting to the root cause of the problem was essential to fixing the
bleeding blacks and allowed for a normal profiling process without
editing.
