It most certainly does.
The greyscale in NOT linear in color with Epson K3 printers. The inks are illuminant metameric too, as all inkjets are yet in control testing the Z with Gloss Enhancer has less than Epson.
The differences are subtle. If you didn't know what you were looking for , you'd probably miss it. It wasn't until the Z 3100 that there was anything better. Now there is , so the option of Gloss Enhancer makes the difference.
The question of Dmax is also one of linearisation. Perhaps there are other settings in the HP driver such as a different media set up that would bring the ink loads into line with the particular optimised set up in the Epson driver for PLU.
I have quite a few samples here where I've measured on similar surface types between the Epson K3, and the HP Z both 2100 and 3100 and the Dmax is pretty much on par. That tells me that the Epson paper needs a bit more ink on the preset if you want the maximum Dmax.
Yet is the Dmax linear at L 2.8 on the Epson driver? Are there printed step differences between the lowest ranges? Or is it an exaggerated Dmax that plugs up the density until quite a few levels later?
