Such as the supposedly SWOP 11 #5 Coated dataset, when in effect there has
never been a separate #5 Coated run, the #5 Coated dataset was massaged from
#3 press run? I don't mind any mangling with the data for the sake of
smoothness or other true-life considerations. But even that should be well
documented. I'm personnally tired of black boxes in color. At least, in the
press profiles I create, I know where the data comes from -- I sweat it out
myself.

This is so true. It's in the report, after all, all nicely laid out in plain
english for anyone to read. See? No confusion possible there --
unequivocally crystal clear.
Incidently, I'd shy from mixing measurements from different calibrations.
But that's me.
