So where does that leave us?
Why? I’ve read the same target measured many times with my i0 and
the average deltaE are tiny. I don’t see the need for this extra
work if the device is working as it should (mine does) and if the
print process is pretty stable (virtually all modern ink jets).
Ok, was just an idea. What I have noticed is if an incorrect read
happens, PMP just marks the colour as black in the preview in the PMP
progress dialog. If that happens, I interrupt the read and have it re-
start that page. That corrects it. I've never had PMP tell me it's
that bad though - just seems to keep going without interruption.
If I were working with some device, a press where the press sheets
were all over the place due to its poor behavior, OK, I’d average a
lot of them. I don’t see the need outside such an example.
Ok. Have you never had a really problematic canvas that has a sheen
cause you trouble on reads? Maybe I should just ditch this canvas and
move on.
It does, but the patches are way, way off.
Have never seen that. Only time it stops is if it's off the target
for some bizarre reason.
As for smaller targets being better, not my experience at all. A
smaller target from vendor A might produce smoother results than
vender B’s larger target but that’s far more due to the color
engine of the product. I’ve built awful targets with as little as
13 patches and some as large as 10,000+. Bigger has never resulted
in a problem although there’s most certainly a point of diminishing
return. Bill’s 1728 or 4096 patch target seem to be a very good
compromise. The 10K profile wasn’t visibly superior.
Have you played with CMYKick at all? Just curious.
