I just wanted to thank those that have replied so far. I'm still wondering
about the use of Argyll for camera profiling? Anyone? Graeme?
I haven't personally tried this, but I know at least one person
has used Argyll with a camera instead of a scanner as a
"poor man's" colorimeter for the purposes of printer profiling.
I recall that they had not disastrous results (but
not without defects, which is typical for a non-instrument
based profile attempt), and the implication is that the
camera profile was at least acting something like a colorimeter.
There are the usual pitfalls in this type of thing, keeping
the lighting and camera situation fixed, the fact that
many RGB sensors do not have spectral sensitivities that
match the CIE observer curves, dynamic range/noise issues,
test chart issues, etc. that all degrade such an arrangements
potential accuracy.
I've got chart recognition templates for the IT8 chart,
and the ColorCheckerDC, but not the ColorCheckerSG though.
