Hello David,
I don't know how much profiling you do but I'd consider the Eye-One
iSis, Monaco PROFILER and ColorEyes Display Pro with the DTP94 bundle.
The Eye-One Pro is a versatile spectro but it tends to be the "Jack
of all trades, master of none" instrument. The Eye-One Isis on the
other hand is both faster and much more consistent/repeatable than
the Eye-One Pro and is switchable between UV-cut and no filter
measurements. You'd need two Eye-One Pros to do that.
As for display measurements, I believe it's still generally accepted
that a colorimeter like the DTP94 does an overall better job than a
pure spectro like the Eye-One Pro. Even though I use an Eye-One for
my displays (it's faster than a colorimeter), the results I get with
my DTP94 are "better" especially in the shadows where the results
tend to be smoother with the Eye-One.
As for profiling software, both major packages (ProfileMaker and
Monaco) do a decent job but Monaco tends to produce the better
separation profiles (smoother, better GCR in my opinion) and are more
accurate for things such as proofing. I've done some testing in the
last month, repeating some tests I did a few years ago, which showed
that ProfileMaker produced the slightly better A2B conversion but
Monaco PROFILER always had the better/more accurate B2A conversion.
In my world, I tend to need both packages. While I prefer Monaco's
profiles and feel they are superior to ProfilerMaker's, ProfilerMaker
has the better supporting cast....Measure Tool, ColorPicker and
Profile Editor. I've used X-Rite's ColorPort for a long time,
especially for my DTP70 but I've gone back to Measure Tool recently
ever since I got my new iSis XL and now I'm preferring Measure Tool
over ColorPort for most chart creation and measurement tasks.
Just my 2 delta E worth,
Terry Wyse

I am about to upgrade my printers, spectrophotometer, and software
packages. My current thinking is to get an Eye One Pro,
Profilemaker 5, and Color Eyes or BasICColor. I wanted to get any
feedback and recommendations on the selection as well as any
recommendations for where to buy it at a decent price. Please feel
free to respond on the forum or contact me off line.
