As for the choice of instrument, I don't think you could ever go wrong with
the EyeOne iO. You'll never have to fight with mechanical problems like
trying to feed sheets into an opening that, sometimes, will balk at you.
You'll be able to measure all kinds of media, thank's to the iO
height-adjustable arm. You'll be able to create custom IT8.7/x measurements,
easily, for scanner profiles. You'll like the speed of the EyeOnePro when
calibrating and profiling your monitor. And, soon, SWOP, through
IDEAlliance, will mandate the EyeOnePro as THE reference emissive reading
instrument for applying the "proof to the numbers" method for monitor
profiling. So, how can you loose? Plus the iO is SOOOOO much faster than the
iSis. And you won't have to wait for the instrument to go over your target
twice before you get your results. The EyeOnePro is supported by a number of
advanced color management utilities like BabelColor's excellent CT&A and
PatchTool (which are no-brainers for the value). And don't bother getting
the EyeOnePro with UV filter model. Really. Pure waste. As for software,
well, you could go with pretty much anything that's out there today (PMP,
Fuji, Monaco, Heidelberg, ...) since ColorPort does such a wonderful job of
supporting the iO natively now. Love it. I'd even seriously consider argyll
(www.argyllcms.com). It does "everything" the more expensive packages do --
for free!!! You'll need to brush up a little on your command-line skills but
you will be more than compensated for your efforts.
