If you're talking about RGB files to be printed on a (CMYK) inkjet,
most good RIPs can do the conversion on the fly.
Mike,
One difference about the RGB workflow in GMG. It has a scaleable
Perceptual
Rendering Intent. So after a few tests of the many scaling options
you have
multiple choices for the Perceptual Rendering Intent.
Most all other RIPs only have one or two options for the Perceptual
Rendering Intent. That is it is on or off.
That is one of the factors that makes GMG so interesting for an RGB
workflow.

And it makes excellent coffee while you wait. Seriously, GMG is an
"interesting" RIP, and a good one, no question. But this is also an
good example of a product trying extremely hard to create a sellable
difference with its competitors. And they do have great
representation on this forum! The best case for even bothering with a
RIP with RGB is in a production environment, where the last thing one
wants to be spending time with is things like experimenting with
various subtle flavorings of perceptual rendering. As someone who has
made a great many fine-art prints from RGB files I will tell you the
best position in almost every case for perceptual rendering is
actually "OFF" and that the best rendering intent is relative
colorimetric with some form of shadow compensation. The widest gamut
and best screening is had with the native (Epson) driver and the
color editing and conversion done carefully in Photoshop. This is the
perspective of someone who actually has to make the prints as opposed
to making only measurements--though I've had to do a lot of that as
well.
