I might be talking through my proverbial hat, because I've never had to make a living doing this, but logic would seem to dictate that when people earn a living on the basis of predictable colour and luminosity from imaging work and they don't get it, all of the sudden colour management should become valuable to them indeed.

Wow, mo. That sounds like a rather peremptory judgment.
I'm not sure that I agree with you. Designers, for example, want the results that color management offers, but I agree that most seem to expect those as a freebie or for a song. But savvy production people understand its usefulness and its value.
I doubt that this means that "there is no money in color management", though it is true that it is a tough sell, oftentimes, as I had the opportunity to find out for myself 9 years ago when I lobbied for it for many months at a SF design firm.
What do others think?
