My experience in building a lot of profiles during beta was that (expect for
one paper and an odd result in desaturation of resulting profile no one
could figure out), the CM make excellent quality paper profiles using a
shockingly low number of patches (100). I know GretagMacbeth worked for
years trying to prefect the small target system and it didn't work (so maybe
credit goes to the color guys at X-Rite/Monaco). Despite my dismay with the
software UI and how X-Rite got sloppy there, there is no denying that the
ease of measuring these small number of patches and the final print is the
evolutionary product I was envisioning years ago when I was first introduced
to it. They have the hardware down pretty well, certainly at this price
point. Its not perfect: the flashing light, at least on my beta hardware is
annoying and doesn't provide anything useful, it shouldn't ask you to keep
recalibrating after you do so once and click the button again. Besides minor
issues that could be fixed, its very good. Making the software that ships
with it even more a letdown.
