Hi Brian,

Try doing an "Initial Fill" (INIT FILL I think it reads from the front panel). This will perform a fresh ink charge and might fix the problem, just make sure you have extra ink on hand as it will probably use about 20-25% of the cartridge. You might have air in the system caused by the vibrations of the move.

I was told recently by a colleague of mine that doing an Initial Fill is not a bad idea to do about every quarter.

Hi all,

I am turning to you ColorSync list experts because I'm stuck.

I sold my older Epson 9500 to a local friend and replaced it with a newer one.

Since moving the printer, which we did according to the manual, the 9500 has not printed correctly.

It prints accurately, but at about half intensity. Black is, at most, 50% gray. Cyan is, at most, 50% cyan, etc.

When we print a diagnostic, like the ink head pattern chart, which also prints text, the text is gray. So are all the ink patterns.

It's as if there is a curve set to 50% being applied to everything that prints.

I have been trying to help my friend to get the printer working correctly, as it printed perfectly here before we moved it across town.

I have cleaned the heads numerous times. I have replaced all six cartridges with new ink. I have printed huge 100% CMYK files to flush the "old" ink out of the printer, and it doesn't get better.

I have downloaded and read the entire service manual, and I can't find any adjustments, settings or changes that make any sense.

The only service warning I get from the machine is the one that says the waste ink pads should be replaced soon.

Does anyone have an idea where I might turn next to get this thing working?

Thank you,

Brian P. Lawler
