Hi John,

As of yet there's no "official" G7 Uncoated dataset/profile but it's supposedly in the works but is probably months away.

I've personally tested the FOGRA 29 data set (ISO Uncoated profile) and find that it is very close to what a "G7 uncoated" data set would probably look like. My confirmation was to run a standard G7 P2P25 target through this profile and then inspect the results in the IDEALink Curve software and see how it complies with the NPDC tone curve and gray balance. I find it close enough that I use it at customer sites when setting up a "G7" proofing system. I've also used it when building device links for the pressroom for uncoated stocks and it seems to work well (no complaints!).

Regards,
Terry Wyse

Hello list folk,

I hope this question isn't too basic, but am curious...

I am trying to bring a client along towards current standards, so when they
prepare files for print, I'm trying to get them to target
GRACoL2006_Coated1v2 and SWOP2006_Coated3v2 instead of US Sheetfed Coated &
US Web(SWOP) CMYK spaces. This is working well, but they ask "what about
uncoated?"

Looking though the Idealliance/GRACoL/SWOP web sites, I can't find anything
addressing this subject - everything seems to reference printing on *coated*
#1, #3, or even #5 paper stock. Am I missing something fundamental here, or
has there been some sort of change in the collective wisdom about printing
on coated vs. uncoated media?

Thanks in advance for enlightening me.

Regards,

John
