So I ended up building test profiles for all gamma values from
1.8-2.8 in 0.1 increments, for both scanners with three different
targets each.
Of course I did this for each profiling software package.
I then averaged the deltaEmax(gamma) curves for both scanners
"averaged" refers to the three different targets as well as the
different software packages, so the average curve of each scanner was
an average of (3 targets x 6 software packages) = 18 single curves.
(VueScan was not included in this test, as it uses a fixed gamma of
2.2 at 24 bit and 1.0 at 48 bit scans. I used SilverFast, which offers
a freely adjustable gamma, as the scanning software for the other
profiling software packages.)
This should be clear from the context, but I just realized that I did
not really describe it clear enough.
