I think you mean the IT8.7/4 or the ECI2002.
There's no practical difference between these two charts. The IT8.7/4
is based on the ECI2002 chart with a few added patches for pastels and
gray balance. It's up to the profiling application to take advantage
of the extra patches.
For inkjet profiling, I would say that there are advantages to using a
higher patch count than either of these charts offer. The X-Rite/
Monaco PROFILER "2989" patch target comes to mind as an excellent
chart for inkjet profiling, nearly twice as may patches as the ECI2002
chart. The IT8.7/4 and ECI2002 are better suited for press profiling
or any device that is already fairly "well-behaved" which is usually
not the case with an inkjet printer, unless driven by a RIP that
allows calibration/linearization prior to profiling.
