Hi,
The main focus on my reply was to avoid comparing two units that cannot be
compared. A LED backlight is in this case the only similarity between the
units.
There are indeed some SDI-to DVI conversion boxes available, but these boxes
do not reach the qulaity of the sony. Plus, most of the Video is still
interlaced and does not run with the basic 60Hz of a standard TFT (24 Frames
for Cinema, 25/50 Frames for PAL, 29.97/59.94 Frames for NTSC for example).
Ergo: you can get the HP to accept professional video indput, but it will
never have the same performance like a sophisticated video editing display.
Sophisticated video engines in this case (sorry folks, again lot´s of video
stuff) is not a marketing buszzword but just means that the Sony is able to
convert interlaced signals into progressive ones ( adaptive motion
deinterlacer) with highest quality and has features like an adaptive motion
compensation to make the video playback absolutely smooth. With a TV or
video enabled TFTyou´ll never notice a dropped frame and accept some image
fault - an editing system must avoid that. Though, the Sony is worth the
money for a professional video editor while the HP and his LG S-IPS panel is
worth the money for a professional in graphic arts.
I´ll get a sample tomorrow and will report the results.
