I think that the saboteurs have won (at least a "battle", if not the "war").
Clients traditionally trust the separators and printers, and if they hear
from them to keep doing things the "old" way, that's what they do.

On the other hand, if prepress shops and printers asked the clients to use
color-managed workflows (which will happen, uhm, just at about the same time
that pigs start flying...), it would be another scene altogether.

It's a cutthroat environment all around. In those conditions, rational
appeals for the savings and higher quality inherent in color management are
drowned by the quest for ever-deeper cost-cutting, full steam ahead (no
matter how ultimately poorly-conceived that may be).

Uh-oh, the "cynic" hath spoken again... <g>
