Nothing was goofed up for device link profiles. The primary demand for them was CMYK->CMYK (for print), and RGB->RGB (for non-print folks). Adobe has a limited number of engineers, a limited number of testers, and a limited amount of time to develop and test features. Rather than delay support of device link profiles until time became available to test every possible combination of input and output color mode, Adobe focused on what was requested by the users to solve real world problems.

Oh yeah...

18 months ago your *users* requested that you stopped ripping off customers outside the US with the ludicrous prices that you charge for the CS packages and upgrades.

18 months later you're still ripping us off.

And to add insult to injury we can see your co-worker crowing about the huge profits that can be derived from the concept of the "suite":

" Revenue grew 70+% to $1Billion in 3 years, as customers adopted higher
priced suites. Meanwhile, profitability grew 35% as the Adobe was able to
streamline development costs, reduce cost-of-goods and hold marketing and
sales expenses flat."

Those sweetly profitable Suites *are* launched regular as clockwork whether you've got a fully fledged array of new features or a half completed hotch-potch -- like your new device link tools.

And I don't believe for one minute what you claim to be the "primary demand" from your users.

Professionals doing CMYK to CMYK work already have access to software that can do this sort of thing.

And 99.9% of your "non-print folks" have no idea that RGB to RGB conversions can damage their images so would hardly be demanding device link conversions.

RGB to CMYK conversions *would* offer significant benefit to your users but you've failed to provide the features that would allow them to realise these benefits.

Unlike the *author* who has made more of an effort and provided a useful and interesting method of getting Photoshop to do this.
