Before the thread goes any further, there is one question that needs answering: after installing your new OS, have you run a maintenance program (like Cocktail or Onyx) to clear caches, rebuild permissions and databases, rotate logs, etc.?
There is a lot of junk left cluttering the hard drive over time just from regular use -- some of it obstructing proper functioning -- that only a reliable maintenance program will clear up, specially after installing a software update.
Most of the time, strange problems like those you list disappear simply by running a thorough maintenance routine. If the problem persists after running the maintenance routine, only then you will know that the problem does deserve special attention.
