- Thread-topic: About the (wonderful) CxF2 format
Just to clarify a couple of points. Any user or developer can implement CxF
by obtaining the schema and other documentation from colorexchangeformat.com
(this includes an open license from X-Rite). A number of companies have done
just that already.
There is also an SDK available from X-Rite that, while still free, does
require some additional licensing because of third party tools used in the
SDK that require us to license their use. CxF v2 - not CxF2 will continue to
evolve. v2 has been published for almost a year and we are hard at work at
incorporating a few select changes that have been suggested by people
attending the standards and specification meetings as well as developers who
have either downloaded the schema at colorexchangeformat.com or licensed our
SDK. This new version will be available soon from the same locations.
We have really tried to make this as open and available as possible, while
still maintaining some control while CxF use continues to expand and grow.
One of the fruits of the marriage of X-Rite and Gretag was a further
recognition of the need to have a more universal color and appearance
communication method that crosses over the often misnamed market verticals
to allow better communication between the production areas of those markets.
