Steve - when using my Onyx or SAI RIP, I am effectively using my Eye-One as
a densitometer for the first steps of linearization. It's a fine instrument,
but I don't trust the software as much as I trusted my old densitometer.
1. Using the Eye-One with ProfileMaker 5.05, the software will reject passes
with poor reading quality, but surprisingly it sometimes accepts reading
with a "zero" value when there should be a number value. It seems
unacceptable that I should have to check the computer's work.
2. I am not as happy with the repeatability of the Eye-One as I was with a
high end densitometer. However, when I get enough money, I would like
something like a DTP41T. I need to get transmissive capability. It the
DTP41T the right choice, or would you recommend something else?
Thanks,
Mark Rice
"Strictly speaking you are correct (mostly). The problem is that
densitometry tends to be more dependent on the instrument than colorimetry.
Thankfully many instruments are now using spectro measurements to calculate
density so this is more reliable and repeatable. But we are still left with
multiple standards where they are not required and there's precious little
benefit for the confusion."
