Thanks, Andrew. Yes, that rang a faint bell, but I didn't remember
the specifics and thought others who just jumped in might want this
info as well. So in this case, we're back to looking for suitable
colorimeters for the display at hand. Your link seems to be broken;
perhaps you can redirect us.

Yes, that will work. But search the archives for a discussion of
where a
Spectrophotometer isn't necessarily ideal device (at least the current
solutions) for measuring very dark patches on a displays:
