Dear Mr. Breton,
I was using the term "profiling the scanning back" figuratively, not
literally. The only methods I know that try to profile a camera
independent of scene illumination are using spectral methods. The ICC
profiles do not support spectral camera profiling, so we are all
forced to profile the camera response, which includes the light
hitting the sensor, the sensor response and camera system processing.
The techniques to which I was referring pertain to how one sets up the
camera, the camera processing, the physical setup, and several other
steps to make the profile as accurate as possible and also how to
correctly use the profile while imaging.

Robin Myers

Robin, can you actually claim that you are "profiling the back" and
not the
whole scene+back response? I have the impression that, somehow, your
technique is able to profile the back 'independently' of the scene
lighting.
