Here's a question I have... (not directed at Klaus)
What does rendering intent have to do with device gamut?
The intent that is, well, intended by the user has NOTHING to do with either the colors in the original image OR the gamut of the output device.
That said, I can see how my statement might be a bit strong:
- the colors 'handed' to the output profile may vary with selected rendering intent IF the source profile has different intents available (such as many print profiles, but NOT working space profiles)
- the gamut of the output device can be determined in different ways. I am a strong supporter of the 'navigate the ink to color/A2B0 transform' method of determining gamut... bbut more about that in a different email.
Ultimately, I don't want a gamut warning to change in any way relative to BPC or outgoing rendering intent. It is misleading.
The one way that I can see gamut warning depending somewhat on rendering intent is if we had a "relative colorimetric" warning option. In this case we could remove media white differences from the equation.

Steve
