That works, but only if you are not already using the proof setup
to preview the results of your image edits in the destination
space, e.g. printer space, like Andrew Rodney described.
So currently, if you are softproofing the final output during work,
you need to switch between two proof setups to find out whether
the sudden loss of detail from your latest edit is due to display
limitations or due to clipping to the printer gamut. Or, of course,
you could buy wide-gamut displays to work around the problem (most
of the time).

but in that respect I'd like to add a much simpler suggestion:
an additional gamut warning for the display.
It would be helpful to know where the displayed color is unreliable
(i.e. clipped) even if it is reachable in the current proof setup
space.
Shouldn't one be able to simply select the current monitor profile as a
proof set-up?
