Hi List members
I'm toying with the idea of constructing viewing hoods with a 1x
Netural Density (ND) filter built in to them for a lab of 24 inc
iMacs. So as to reduce monitor brightness. I don't want to use video
card LUT based methods to achieve the brightness reduction.
As a proof-of-concept I have tried some one 'stop' neural density
Lighting gels [Lee filter] over of our apple 24" iMacs and I can
easily hit the 120 -140 cdm2 I am looking for.
However the lighting gel has small optical imperfections and gives
unacceptable color artifacts when looking through it at the monitor.
I also see some Moire patterns too.
QUESTIONS
Have any list members succeeded with ND filters over a monitor?
Any ideas Where I could get a ND filters more suitable for the job?
What causes the Moire patterns?
Also, I am assuming I'd need to to profile the monitors through the
ND filter.
Your help appreciated.
Regards
Peter Miles
