Hi Roger,
I used the editing tool in Remote Director to change this, but there
are other ways as you well know. For soft proofing I usually increase
the L* value up by 1-2 points and make an achromatic adjustment at the
shadow end of the scale to bring the proper weight and contrast back
to the image.
I made this change for a large US publisher who feel that the Monterey
Gloss white point is too yellow and not typical of the Finnish 30-32#
LWC papers most weeklies use. Their monthly magazines' 38# stock is
brighter and a touch more blue so they were looking for a good
average / compromise.
To make matters worse, there was a shade change on Monterey about
halfway through the lengthy process of SWOP press runs and data
collection, so by the time the spec was published it was already out
of date - which is not surprising when you consider that the first
press runs were in November of 2003....

Doug,
You just edit the MWP? The default b* of +4.00 is seen as too yellow?
SWOP2006_Coated5v2 is based on 60# Monterey Gloss, which is the
replacement for the old #60 Textweb. The shade of this paper is not a
perfect match for the European lightweight coated papers used by the
large US publishers today, and some people feel this dataset with a
modified white point works well:
L*90
a*0
b*2.5
